Houno is the supreme chief of the sea. Legba is the crossroads. The maracas are the twins in our world. Loko & the Ayizan are the friends of the farmers, healers because of their closeness to the earth & the herbs. Damballah is the big snake the same size with the Anaconda of the Amazon. Agwe and Lasirene are the ocean & the mermaid of the Imamou. The bishop holding the fish is a good friend Agwe. Where are we going? Where have we been? The Rada spirits of the Fon & the Ewe tribes of Dahomey ( modern day Benin) and the Nago spirits of Yorubaland ( modern day nigeria). The Ghede's propensity for dirty jokes mirror the foul-mouthed dead spirits of Arawak and Taino indians culture. The Taino word for " mountainous," ayiti in the new world became the name by which the Africans knew their new home and the name which we know Haiti today.
